August is almost here, and that means not only is it time to start thinking about grabbing your textbooks and finalizing arrangements for the next semester, it is also one of your last chances to apply for scholarships that disburse funds before the next tuition bill comes due.
If you’re looking for a complete list of scholarships and aid programs that you’re individually eligible for, be sure to check out the free service at Fastweb to Find Free College Money! Once you’ve set up your personal profile, they’ll match your information to the database of awards they’re researching and you’ll see exactly what programs are out there for a student just like you. Parents, you know what your kids are up to also, so if you want to help them get started you can show them a list of sources of free money and let them take it from there!
Now if you’re in an absolute rush and you need to apply for the first award you see and you’re always fighting against the last minute deadlines, check out these nationally recognized awards that close in August 2010. There aren’t a whole lot of awards with general eligibility this month, so if you want a more comprehensive list you’ll have to check out some of the profile-based databases or a key-word based scholarship search engine.
- On August 5th, College Week Live is hosting an online event and if you register by then and participate in the live virtual session on that day you might just be selected to win a $1,500 scholarship award. It sounds like the information of the Back to School Day might be worth your attention anyway, so you might as well take part and have that chance of winning free money for school!
- Scholarship Experts is offering the Do Over Scholarship and all you have to do to apply is fill out a short essay about one decision or event in your life that you would like to do over if you theoretically had the chance. Five students will win $1,000 in free college aid – so be sure to write an essay that stands out and demonstrates the lessons you’ve learned with age & experience. Applications are due on August 31st.
