Based on Google trends information, it seems like scholarships are the last thing on peoples’ minds during the summer time. Obviously, the nice weather is calling and paying for school is probably the last thing students are worried about. Students are used to having summer as vacation time, and it can be pretty easy to put off things like bills until they’re actually due.
But the fall semester is just a few months out! Do you know how you’re going to pay for it? I hate to ruin your buzz on the way to the beach, but if you don’t have a plan for that next tuition bill already there’s a good chance you’ll end up relying on student loans when the time comes.
To avoid the last minute rush, take advantage of the fact that summer scholarships have less competition! Since fewer students are applying for the awards, you’ve automatically got fewer applications to outrank.
Scholarships run by your college or university may not have deadlines over summer, but many other organizational awards and contests aren’t tied to the school year.
Within the next few posts, I’ll search out some summer time scholarships with upcoming deadlines, but if you’re looking for all the award opportunities you’re eligible for be sure to register to find college funds with Fastweb.com.
They’ve got regularly updated lists of all the awards with coming deadlines and they’ll even filter the results to match the personal information in your registration profile.
If you can find some awards that match two or three of your unique eligibility characteristics and the award has a deadline in the summer time – you could be one of just a handful of people who actually fill out the application!
